Data Mining DNA Since 2017
Margaret O’Brien first joined an online genealogy website in 2012.
In 2017, she used the DNA services from Ancestry, 23andMe, FamilyTreeDNA, MyHeritage, and GEDmatch. This sparked a fascination with analysing the rich data from each company using a wide range of tools.
Margaret started the DataMiningDNA.com website in 2018 as a resource of tutorials and how-to guides on using genealogy archives and consumer DNA testing to research ancestry and family trees.
In 2020, she launched the DataMiningDNA YouTube channel for over-the-shoulder visual walkthroughs and tutorials.
In November 2021, the website released the first of a series of free online tools for genealogists. The U.S. Surname Ranker checks where a surname ranks across the 2000 and 2010 census.
The website founder is based in Ireland. Margaret O’Brien has been providing data and technology services since 2004.
